I have been married to Peter for 31 years and have 3 children; Jason 27, Tara 24 and Warren 20. No, I am not going to tell you my age, and there are no prizes for guessing ( unless you estimate I am 40! )
Although we had our children in the late 70s and early 80s, as a very experienced mother I haven’t lost sight of what being pregnant and giving birth is like, nor those feelings of being a new parent or the gnawing fear of can one love a second baby as much as the first.
My background is in secondary teaching, having taught Home Economics in Birmingham and Worcestershire, where we lived for 13 years and West Lothian where we have lived for the past 20 years, but these days it is Pete who likes to do the cooking! My teaching skills are put to good use working with adults, and I have had the privilege of working with expectant parents for more than 17 years teaching National Childbirth Trust antenatal classes.
I am a Teacher Tutor, training the student teachers in Scotland for the NCT for the last 8 years as well as the European students for the last 5 years.
My interest in complementary therapies, and wanting to help women get the best birth that they can possibly have, led me to train as a Hypnotherapist and NLP Practitioner and I have a Hypnotherapy Practise helping people with a large range of problems. These skills and wealth of experience directly support me as a Doula.
In the time I have to myself I like to care for our growing collection of Bonsai trees, practise Tai Chi, Egyptian Belly dancing – in fact I love most forms of dancing, and am very interested in complementary therapies, we ski in the winter and generally try to keep fit.
